Screaming in Digital: Ghost Electric

Hope you all survived the holiday weekend with your limbs and your freedom intact.  Thanks to those that came out to the Mountain Bar Saturday night.  All the bands delivered, and HUNTRESS debuted some surprising new material that reflects a group finding its own identity.  Good things are to come.

On to this week.  When I boarded my flight to SXSW this year, the plan was to shut it down and zone out for three hours before four days of insanity.  As I settled into my window seat, a longhair joined me on the aisle.  His name was Mark Abbruzzese - a professor of anthropology and the lead singer of the Orange County band GHOST ELECTRIC.  There's always musicians on that flight to Austin.  But I wasn't prepared for this guy to tell me that one of his primary influences is Geoff Tate.  You probably won't find Rage For Order on the iPods of too many SXSW hipsters.  And truth be told, QUEENSRYCHE has so far been overlooked by the recent 80s metal revival.  The last time I spoke to anyone about that band was with Josh Homme.  It turns out he's no fan of the band or me being a fan, a bit surprising when you consider the guy can't get enough of his falsetto.  The conversation with Mark was far less awkward, and did not end until we found ourselves on Texas soil.  That never happens.  Since then, GHOST ELECTRIC have been finishing up their debut album, To Be Announced, which will be released this summer.  More hard rock than metal, the music is progressive and stylistically diverse.  But the vocals stand out, and they immediately bring Tate and his impressive pipes to mind.  Just check out "Death to Angels" on the player below.  And on Thursday night in Santa Ana, the band plays their first show at Malones.

Speaking of QUEENSRYCHE, we have five pairs of tickets to give away to their Cabaret at Club Nokia on Friday, July 23rd, sure to be a night unlike any you've had in a while:

The Queensryche Cabaret will be art, lust, dancing and naughty fun with the band performing their hits and never-heard-before selections accompanied by Go-Go dancers, burlesque dancers, drag queens, a juggler, ballet dancer, aerial artist, contortionist and much more.

To enter, please contact us here or email us at thecityofdevils@gmail.com.  The winners will be selected at random on Monday, July 12th at noon, except that those who send proof they attended the GHOST ELECTRIC show will get priority.
