The Women at the Blvd

An exciting trend in metal had been the emergence of more and more highly talented women musicians who are being taken seriously first and foremost for their abilities, rather than just as a nice visual distraction from all the hairy guys that normally populate the stage (notwithstanding Revolver's World's Hottest Chicks in Metal issues, of course).  Theoretically, this gender diversity should result in more interesting music because it expands the influences, styles and viewpoints that are being expressed.  It also should expand the fanbase for metal, which will benefit all bands.  But let's be honest.  In some ways, metal is no different than the corporate world.  It's still the domain of men.  And I have to imagine women in metal face the same quandary as their corporate counterparts:  can I succeed without first proving myself as one of the guys?  When that question is no longer a consideration, we will all be better off.

Sunday night at the Blvd there's are relatively early show headlined by the death metal of THE CAUTERIZED, with support by two other local bands that prominently feature two of the aforementioned highly talented women musicians.  HELL HATH NO FURY, fronted by Leah on guitars and vocals is returning home for the final show of their multiweek "Truth or Consequences Tour."  RUSTY EYE, anchored by drummer Ms. Randall, proved to me at the Dragonfly a few months back that their live show is the real deal.  Set times:

Doors 7:30pm

INSENTIENT 8:00 - 8:30
RUSTY EYE 8:50 - 9:20
HELL HATH NO FURY 9:40 - 10:10
THE CAUTERIZED 10:30 - 11:10
Cover will only be $5
