New Music Update

January is a quiet month for music releases but there's a lot of promising shit on the horizon.  Here's some info that's made it's way into out inbox, mostly from local labels and bands:

  • Prosthetic Records's THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD release Skepsis on February 2nd.  You can pre-order it here.  They will be in town all the way from South Carolina on March 31st supporting OTEP at the Whisky.  You can check out the record in its entirety at 6 PM PT tomorrow by streaming WSOU, Seton Hall's Pirate Radio.
  • Phoenix's LANDMINE MARATHON have announced March 16th as the release date for their upcoming third length, Sovereign Descent also via Prosthetic.  The CD can be pre-ordered for $10, a CD and T shirt bundle for $20 and a CD and long sleeve shirt bundle for $25 by going here.  An MP3 of the track "Exist" is also being made available is also being made available until next Tuesday - jump on Twitter @ProstheticRcd for details.
  • After being rejected by RCA back in 2008, PRIESTESS's Prior to the Fire that was recorded in Los Angeles with producer David Schiffman (System of a Down, Mars Volta, Nine Inch Nails) will finally see the light of day on February 2nd via Tee Pee Records.  You can download the single "Raccoon Eyes" here and stream the whole record on their MySpace page.
  • DEAD MEADOW is premiering a new song entitled "To The One" on Spin's website from their upcoming full-length movie, Three Kings, and accompanying soundtrack that will be out March 23rd on Xemu Records.  We're hearing there will be a special local showing of the movie that should be killer.  Details will be shared when we get them.
  • Los Angeles' sludgy hardcore band NORIEGA have just uploaded another track, "Bernard", onto their MySpace page from the debut EP, Desolo, which came out December 8th on upstart LA-based label, Viable Records.  The EP can be bought at a special discount price here through February 12 with $1 going to Haiti relief efforts.
  • In Hydra Head news, this week saw the CD release of CAVE IN's Planet of Old and the official release of HARVEY MILK's long-lost self-titled debut, aka the Bob Weston Sessions (the producer and bassist for SHELLAC).  Click the links to stream those records.  And for those of you who enjoy the Providence noise scene like we do, you shouldbe excited to learn that DAUGHTERS have announced that s/t will be out on Hydra Head on March 9th.
