Tithing for The Church of the 8th Day

There's little doubt that The Church of the 8th Day is the most significant metal promoter in Los Angeles.  As you can see from their website, they do more than put on shows.  They design posters, flyers and merch, manage bands, book tours, and generally do all they can to support the underground.  That's our mission too, but unlike those guys, we've stopped well short of dedicating our lives to the cause.  For us, this is a fun hobby.  For them, this is it.  So when we read this message it was like getting a call for help from family:

The Church of the 8th Day is currently going through a pretty rough patch right now. As most of you know, the Knitting Factory will be closing its doors at the end of October, and this is where we usually throw our shows. Getting into new venues for us means we have to pay upfront for any venue rental and bar/food guarantees. With the amount of shows we are planning, we have maxed out our credit cards and wiped out our personal bank accounts on deposits, to keep bringing great shows through Los Angeles. The month of October is filled with all types of shows, and we ask that you please come out and support, and bring some friends, as we could use the extra support this month, to get us through the next few months.

These will be some of the last shows at the Knitting Factory Hollywood forever. We have also taken on two rooms on October 25th, the LAST night at the Knit. We will be announcing bands for this night very soon, and expect everyone to come out to see it off.

This is no joke.  You don't send out a message out like that unless shit is dire.  The truth is these guys should not even have to ask for our help.  The Church of the 8th Day have consistently delivered quality bills, and now it's time for us to show our appreciation.  And if the idea of giving back doesn't do it for you, then consider your own life, and imagine living in this city without their shows.  It's not pretty.  Your first chance to support comes next Wednesday, when one of the best lineups of the year plays the main room at the Knitting Factory.  There's no reason the place shouldn't be packed.  KYLESA's album, Static Tensions, will be all over the best of the year lists.  BLACK MATH HORSEMAN are the breakthrough L.A. band too few have heard, so be sure to enjoy it now while they're all ours.  SAVIOURSlive show improves every time I see them.  And BISON b.c. and their Blue Bitch, all the way from Vancouver, will ensure that this is a night riffologists won't soon forget.
