Longhair Illuminati Arts & Music Festival
Wednesday, September 23, 2009 Part 1 of the Second Annual Longhair Illuminati Festival (Part 2 is 10/3 in Pomona) takes place Sunday night at the soon to be closed Knitting Factory. A little less noisy than FYF Fest but still offering a nicely diverse lineup. There are two must-sees, and in between we're wandering until it sounds good. First up is GREEN & WOOD, who are just coming off their record release show with CROM and DUSTED ANGEL which we missed, but reportedly was very well-attended and quite a rager. And headlining is TWEAK BIRD, who we first saw a while back opening for BIG BUSINESS or the MELVINS or both at the Troubadour. Well, life got even better for these guys when they got asked to join TOOL for 12 shows over the summer. If that experience didn't make them a better band, they should call it quits.

Tweak Bird completely flaked on the Om/Lichens show last night (thx again for the tix!), much to the frustration of the promoter who called/texted them all night. I've heard that isn't exactly the first time they've done that. Om sounded great though.
No kidding that Green & Wood release party was well attended! 200+ people, lots of women, cheap beer and THEE best $1 tacos ever at a family's house right across the street. The sound there isn't the best, but the Nomad compound is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to see a show.
