Hydra Head in the Noose
Wednesday, July 22, 2009 It's a busy summer over at Hydra Head, though the timeliness of this "news" is questionable. We shall improve.
The big, local story is that Hydra Head labelmates TORCHE and BIG BUSINESS will be performing for free at another Scion showcase taking place on August 5th at the Knitting Factory. We still think that TORCHE's last album, Meanderthal, was one of the best relases of 2008. Undeniable in the way that QUICKSAND's Slip was back in the mid-90s. We missed the DREDG shows so this will be our first opportunity to see them as a three-piece. Can they still bring the power? Check out Meanderthal and their recent 12" here and here. CAVE IN has been resurrected, with a new EP Planets of Old to be released only on 12" vinyl. So rare it may already be an Ebay deal, but you can stream it here or give this MetalSucks contest a shot.
The unreleased first album from HARVEY MILK, Self-Titled, is available as a 2XLP from Vacation Vinyl but appears to be sold-out. Keep checking for more. Recorded by Bob Weston (Shellac) and mastered in 2008 from the original cassette. this vinyl version should make you forget about your download.

So it turns out that Vacation Vinyl was the exclusive source for the All Natural Pistachio Vinalli Ice Cream version of the new CAVE IN 12", and those appear to be all gone. But if you can look past that and go with another color, it looks like you can get another color from the Hydra Head Store. I hope to soon be a proud owner of the Green Tea Frozen Yogurt.
