A Double Shot of Oliveri & Plenty More Desert Fun

Tomorrow night the Relax Bar will ring you two sets from NICK OLIVERI, ex-KYUSS/ex-QOTSA/DWARVES. First, he'll play solo and acoustic, and then after an intermission by the almighty IT'S CASUAL (whose set last weekend at Mountain Bar was harshly cut short by a blown tube), he'll be joined by the rest of MONDO GENERATOR for a full-on rock set.  I'm pretty sure Nick will bust out some of his QOTSA tunes that you never will hear again at a QOTSA show, but if you have never had the pleasure, you will quickly appreciate that Nick has since written quite a few other killer songs in that same vein. He'll be joined by GUSTO, featuring fellow KYUSS and QOTSA alum Alfredo Hernandez on drums. Alfredo played drums on the the first Queens full-length, one of our all-time favorites. Here are the set times:

  • MONDO GENERATOR 1230AM TO 115AM
  • IT'S CASUAL 1145PM TO 1215AM
  • NICK OLIVERI (ACOUSTIC) 11PM TO 1130PM
  • GUSTO 1015PM TO 1045PM
  • PROFESSOR 930PM TO 10PM
  • CHINGALERA 845PM TO 915PM
  • THUNDERHORSE 800PM TO 830PM

Speaking of QOTSA, if you're not up for Hollywood, there's a pretty great punk show going down at the Redwood downtown featuring their buddies THROW RAG and a bunch of crazy motherfuckers from Austin, TX called THE HICKOIDS.  I've never had more fun seeing a band for the first time than my afternoon last year with THE HICKOIDS in their hometown.

And finally, moving on to Saturday and keeping with the desert vibe, don't forget about A Desert Trip at Silver Factory Studios that will include a performance by Mario Lalli, the godfather of desert rock, Alfredo Hernandez, and the rest of their band YAWNING MAN.  It's great to live in the City of Devils.
