Catching Up With It's Casual

Eddie Solis is a big reason this site has made any impact at all in this city.  From the launch, he's supported the concept, offered ideas, introduced us to his wide web of friends, and even subjected himself to our first interview.  So it's been extremely gratifying that over the same period, his band, IT'S CASUAL, has experienced even more success.  I had to go all the way to Austin to finally see him and W.C.E. play, and their performance was the physical manifestation of Eddie's unrivaled passion for music and the DIY scene.  They just put it all out there.  Even when the stage was invaded by Big Dick Willie (you had to be there), IT'S CASUAL was undeterred.  It's that kind of focus that likely convinced Scott Kelly of the legendary NEUROSIS to release their 5th studio album on his label, Neurot Recordings.  Before then, however, IT'S CASUAL has a whole lot going on, including the re-release of The New Los Angeles in April and a still untitled 4th studio album in August via Eddie's own Friendly Hills Recordings.   A video for the title track of The New Los Angeles is also in the process of being recorded by Robert Schober (aka Roboshobo), well-known for the videos he made of Metallica's "All Nightmare Long" and Mastodon's"Divinations" & "Sleeping Giant."  In the meantime, you can catch the boys on a West Coast tour:

  • April 9 @ The Stork Club, Oakland, CA (9 pm)
  • April 10 @ R5 Records, Sacramento, CA (Free, All Ages, 6:30 pm)
  • April 10 @ On The Y, Sacramento, CA (21+, 10:30 pm)
  • April 11 @ Stillwater, Ashland, OR
  • May 10 @ The Knitting Factory, Hollywood, CA (Los Angeles Murder Fest)

And check out this performance of "Less Violence, More Violins" from the Southern Lord SXSW showcase captured by cameraman Jason Landrian of BLACK COBRA:
